which the legislation of the Republic of Macedonia is incorporating
the European Union legal acts while developing appropriate mecha-
nisms and instruments to facilitate successful assessment thereof and
at the same time leaving a trail of its development method.

This Handbook is a practical tool that will focus on the essential charac-
teristics of the European Union legal system, in order to explain the basic
principles it is grounded and functions as well as to facilitate and unify the
procedures when completing new correlation tables and Statement on the
Approximation of the legal act with the EU legislation with Correlation
Table, established with the Decision on the Forms of the Accompanying
Letter and the Memorandum, the content and form of the Correlation Ta-
ble and of the Statement on the Approximation of the legal act with the
EU legislation (OfÞcial Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No 92/10)
as well as marking of bylaws subject to approximation with the European
Union legal acts, in accordance with the Decision on establishing a mark
of the EU legal acts in the bylaws for approximation with the EU law (Of-
Þcial Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia No 38/10).

The Handbook is intended for the employees in the sectoral ministries
that are faced with the biggest load of obligations during this process.
I hope that it will be useful for the other state administrative bodies as
well, which participate in or assist this process in any other way.

Due to that I expect that this Fourth Edition of the Handbook on Trans-
position of the EU Legislation into the Legislation of the Republic of
Macedonia will continue to be an important tool for the partakers in
the process as it was until now.

I hope that its content will provide you with useful information and
knowledge on the procedure relating to approximation with the EU
legislation while using your experience acquired and lessons learned;
thus we will mutually add to strengthen the efforts to realize the Þnal
objective – membership in the European Union.
